NORTON, Kan. — Four Kansas family members have sustained minor injuries when a tornado destroyed their home. Violent storms also have knocked over freight train cars and halted play at the College World Series in Nebraska.
Sharon Watson of the Kansas Adjutant General's office says at least three homes were destroyed Monday afternoon in Norton County near the Nebraska border. The injuries reported were minor cuts and scrapes.
Sirens began blowing about 8 p.m. CDT at the College World Series in Omaha. Fans began filing out immediately, but play between Vanderbilt and Florida continued for a couple more pitches before umpires waved players off the field.
In central Nebraska, the York News-Times said one of its photographers reported several freight cars were knocked off the tracks Monday evening on the outskirts of town.
