Religious Cleansing Threats in Nigeria Imperil Civil Society
The strings of civil society in Nigeria, Africa's most populous country, may come undone this year with more terrorist attacks on Christians and growing civil unrest over poor economic conditions, according to a new intelligence analysis at LIGNET.com.
Boko Haram, the radical Islamist terrorist group that bombed Catholic churches on Christmas Day, killing almost 50, is threatening more attacks if Christians don't leave the Muslim-dominated northern part of the country by Friday. Leaders of Boko Haram, which translates as “Western education is sacrilege,” also have said they are ready to fight any Nigerian troops sent to confront them.
The risk is growing for American and international oil companies such as Royal Dutch Shell, Chevron, and Exxon Mobile, all now operating in Nigeria.

Syrian Rebels Outraged Over Arab League Observer Claims
Arab League observers sent to Syria to monitor compliance with a peace agreement actually have made the situation worse, according to our intelligence experts at LIGNET.com.
The Syrian rebels are outraged about the Arab League observer mission’s report that the Syrian government has made progress in complying with the Arab peace plan. They also accuse the observers, led by Sudanese war criminal Mohamed Ahmed Mustafa al-Dabi, of providing cover to the government of President Bashar al-Assad.
The rebels have stepped up their activities, and it now appears there is only one thing to be done with Syria.

China: Destruction of Falun Gong Mosque Shocks Experts
Growing tension between the Chinese Communist Party and ethnic and religious minorities was obvious this week after police destroyed a mosque in northern China.
The destruction of the mosque, which dated to the 19th-century Qing Dynasty, shocked many observers, who point out that the Muslims in this region of China are much more assimilated than in other regions. The government justified its actions by calling the mosque an “illegal structure” because supporters of Falun Gong use it.
Economic prosperity in China has been accompanied by continued and even increased suppression of religious minorities, which tells us something important about the Chinese Communist Party.
