Veteran GOP strategist Karl Rove criticized Sen. Rand Paul on Tuesday for attacking former President Bill Clinton's conduct during the Monica Lewinsky affair, saying it's not a tactic that makes for a successful presidential run.

The Kentucky Republican caused a stir during the last few weeks with comments he made about Bill Clinton and the Monica Lewinsky scandal, saying Clinton's behavior was "predatory" and should be a factor that women consider before supporting the Clintons if they claim they care about women's rights.

"Frankly, Rand Paul spending a lot of time talking about the mistakes of Bill Clinton does not look like a big agenda for the future of the country," Rove said Tuesday on Fox's "America's Newsroom," according to Politico.

Rove said presidential candidates in 2014 should focus on ensuring their campaigns are broader than their personal ambitions and working on strengthening their skills.

"I'm not certain, again, that beating up on Bill Clinton and Monica Lewinsky is a particularly good thing to strengthen your skills," Rove said.
