Jon Stewart to Obama: 'You're Trying to Run Out the Rest of Your Term'

By Greg Richter

"Daily Show" host Jon Stewart on Wednesday asked whether President Barack Obama isn't just running out the clock on his presidency.

Stewart criticized Obama not only for his slowness in reacting to Russian President Vladimir Putin's incursion into neighboring Ukraine, but also for the literal sluggishness with which he drawled out his response to the situation on Wednesday.

"Can you pick up the pace, buddy? The world's blowing up," Stewart said. "I know what this is: He's slow-talking. You're trying to run out the rest of your term."

Stewart put a basketball shot clock on Obama, who paused almost between every word during his speech from Estonia.

After the 15-second clock expired without Obama finishing one sentence, Stewart told the audience, "I'm sorry we're impatient, it's just that in the time it takes him to give a speech to the Baltic states, Putin annexed them."
