Former "America's Most Wanted" host John Walsh intends to take on the National Rifle Association on his new CNN program "The Hunt," The Wrap reported.

Walsh, 68, is not sure how much of the program, which kicks off on July 13, will focus on regulating guns. "I think 'The Hunt' is going to evolve as we do it," he told a news conference. The new show will also be about catching criminals on the run.

Motivated by the murder of his 6-year-old son, Adam, in 1981, Walsh has devoted himself to shielding people from criminals. He hosted "America's Most Wanted" on Fox for 23 years until 2011.

The anti-crime advocate describes the NRA less as a gun rights group and more like a lobby for gun manufacturers, according to the Wrap.

He said he is a veteran gun owner and hunter. "And I am the biggest advocate for background checks out of any gun owner in America."

Walsh said, "I am the guy that has seen both sides of the issue. I own guns. I'm the father of a murdered child. I've done nothing but track violence in America since my son was murdered. We have a serious problem with guns in this country. And we refuse to address it. And the NRA solution to arm every grammar-school 80-year-old teacher with a gun is absolutely ludicrous."

Walsh said he had a solution for locating stolen weapons: Put a GPS tracking device in every legal gun. "Every one of us have a GPS chip in our cell phones. It's not Big Brother," he said.
