With the Ukraine city of Kiev exploding in violence, Russian President Vladimir Putin was "showing the type of thug he is," talk show host Joe Scarborough said Friday.
"The timing couldn't be worse for Vladimir Putin in showing the type of thug he is, the type of thug he has been," Scarborough, who was also a Florida Republican congressman, said on his MSNBC "Morning Joe" program. "The guy's a thug. He's a dictator. He's brutal."
Scarborough voiced frustration with the International Olympic Committee for making "this choice years ago" to hold the 2014 Winter Olympics in the Russian city of Sochi. He said it "must be payoffs, because it's certainly not that he's deserving of such a spotlight."

At least 60 people were killed Thursday during one of the deadliest days of fighting in the three-month struggle between protesters and Ukrainian military forces. Scarborough questioned what the U.S. response would be should Russia crack down more heavily once the Olympics conclude Sunday.
"What is our official response, and what can we do short of sending military aid, because we are not going to send military aid to Ukraine. But at the same time, we have to work together in concert with other nations to isolate Putin if that happens," Scarborough said.
The United States faced three "flashpoints" across the globe with the Ukraine unrest, violence in Syria, and nuclear arms talks with Iran, Scarborough said.
"What is the common denominator in all three of those world crises? Vladimir Putin. What's the United States' response?" Scarborough asked. "How aggressively are we going to work against Vladimir Putin?"
