The Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) has shortened its name to Islamic State (IS) because the militant insurgent group is looking to establish a "universal kingdom" of believers, said Lt. Col. Ralph Peters.
"Now that they've dropped to just IS, Islamic State, it tells you that they're looking far beyond Iraq and Syria," Peters, a retired Army Lt. Col., told Fox News' "America's Newsroom" on Monday. "The caliphate is about a universal kingdom, if you will, of believers. Their ambitions are enormous and vast."
The "greatest strength" the IS terrorists have is their faith, Peters said, which is something the administration of President Barack Obama can't understand."

"The Obamacrats, they don't understand faith. They're not religious themselves in a powerful sense. So they don't understand the incredible ignition of faith, the transformative power of revelation," he said.
Peters said the IS fighters are so dedicated to their beliefs that they are "willing, and even anxious, to die for their beliefs." This stands in opposition to the Iraqi army, which saw many of its members retreat as the ISIS threat advanced.
Because Iraq is "broken apart," Peters argues the White House needs to stop concentrating on working with the Iraqi governmen, and instead "concentrate on killing America's enemies."
Because of Obama's foreign policy failures, the United States is at long-term risk, he said.
"When it comes to foreign policy and America's security, this administration is so disastrous. Obama has been such a comprehensive failure that it not only endangers us now, we will be paying a price in risk and danger for decades to come," Peters said.
