Americans believe that former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton would do a better job handling a range of domestic and international issues if elected president than President Barack Obama's performance on the job, a new poll has found.

In a CNN/ORC International survey conducted May 29 to June 1 of 1,003 adults, 63 percent of those surveyed say she would do a good job on foreign policy, as well as handling the economy.

Also, 61 percent believe she would do well handling terrorism, and 57 percent have confidence in her ability to take charge of healthcare.

By comparison, just 40 percent of respondents approve of the president's handling of foreign policy, and only 38 percent believe he is doing a good job in his handling of the economy. The poll's margin of error is 3 percentage points.

Urgent: Should Hillary Run in 2016? Vote Now

"That's helpful to her chances of actually getting elected if it holds up through 2016," said CNN Polling Director Keating Holland.

"It suggests that the president's low marks on most issues might not drag Clinton down if she runs for the White House again."

Clinton also trumps Obama on other issues such as gun policy, the environment, and immigration.

"A majority think Clinton would do a good job on all nine issues tested in the poll. Obama's current job approval rating never breaks 50 percent on any of those same nine issues," Holland added.

"None of this means that Clinton is a lock for the White House, but it is an enviable position for any candidate to be in."
