Right-wing conservatives may have met their match. No, it's not Hillary Clinton or even Bernie Sanders. It's … Captain America!
The beloved superhero goes to battle with a group of far-right activists who are attempting to quash a group of illegal immigrants from crossing into the United States from Mexico.
The gun-wielding vigilantes — as portrayed in "Captain America: Sam Wilson #1," coming out from Marvel Comics — are an "evil" militia known as the "Sons of the Serpent," The Washington Times reports
The Times says Marvel, owned by Disney, "has recently made numerous moves that critics are calling a liberal pander, such as changing the race and sex of many of its iconic superheroes."
In the strip, the Sons of the Serpent tell the Mexican travelers that by entering the United States, they will spread disease and increase crime, take jobs meant for Americans and freeload on welfare.
"Attention all trespassers! I am the Supreme Serpent! By invading this sovereign land, you defy the laws of God, nature and the United States Constitution!" the group's leader shouts.
"Therefore, I hereby apprehend you by the power vested in me by the aforementioned God, nature, et cetera, et cetera."
When one of the immigrants pleads for compassion and insists they are not out to cause problems, the Supreme Serpent bellows "Oh, I believe you, sir. I can see you have enough trouble with you already, trouble and disease and crime weigh heavy on your backs."
He adds that a wall separating the two countries must be built — a controversial idea being touted by Republican presidential front-runner Donald Trump.
"Until the mighty wall is built, you come here for employment that is rightfully ours! And if denied it, you seek welfare paid for by our tax dollars!" the Supreme Serpent says.
"Also, you know how you make me press one for English at the beginning of every call to my satellite provider? That is something I cannot abide! … I declare you all enemy combatants! You're coming with us or you will feel the Serpent's bite!''
In the comic, panels of which have been posted by the MacIver Institute, Captain America is seen beating up the Sons of the Serpent, after which he is trashed in the press as "Captain Socialism."
Sam Wilson is the retooled version of Captain America and is one the world's first black superheroes. Earlier this year, Marvel announced Wilson would reign as the new Captain America after the retirement of Steve Rogers, the original hero, The Daily Mail
There is a cliffhanger in the story, when, at the end, the original Captain America tells the new one to stand down.
