The U.S. Supreme Court will “follow the law” and rule against Obamacare, Florida Attorney General Pam Bondi confidently predicted to Newsmax.TV in an interview.

“I’m very optimistic that the justices will follow the law,” Bondi said at the Faith and Freedom Conference in Washington, D.C. Florida was the lead plaintiff among 26 states suing President Barack Obama over the new healthcare law.

The high court decision on President Barack Obama's signature effort of his first term is expected within the next two weeks and Bondi is preparing herself for the worst — but is expecting the best.

Watch our exclusive interview. Story continues below.

“Regardless of what happens, I’m not going to be critical of the highest court in the land, unlike our president has been," said Bondi. "We feel very confident that they will follow the law.

“There is no case, anywhere close to being on point that says the federal government can do this to us,” Bondi added. “If the federal government can force us to purchase a product, simply by being alive — simply by sitting here — there’s no limit to what they can do. So this is very, very important. And it’s so much bigger than healthcare.”

Should Obamacare not be struck down by the court, it would “bankrupt" Florida, Bondi claimed. "Now that these actuaries are coming out, it’s costing trillions of dollars, trillions more than anticipated, which is outrageous,” Bondi said.

“We all know we need healthcare reform in our country, but this is not the way to do it."

She said of the whole Obamacare case, "It's a shame that it's gotten this far."

On Florida’s continued efforts to purge noncitizens from voter registration rolls, Bondi said she said she has just written "a very strong letter" to the Department of Justice "with some very compelling questions."

The first was on why the state was being denied the list of citizens by the Department of Homeland Security.

“We firmly believe we are legally entitled to this list,” Bondi said. “They should be giving us this list and they should be working with us, instead of stonewalling and being obstructionist. That’s what we feel has been happening.”

“That’s why I’m proud of our governor. I’m proud of our Department of State. For every vote that is illegally cast, that nullifies a legal vote. This shouldn’t be a partisan issue. Every single citizen in this country should only want people to vote who are legally qualified to vote and this is what this is about.”

Bondi believes Florida, which voted for Obama in 2008, will once again vote Republican in 2012. “We are a red state,” she said. “We are going to go back to being a red state – and Mitt Romney is going to be the best president of the United States of America.

"He is going to turn around our economy. He’s going to bring jobs to our country. That’s why we need Mitt Romney.

“I can sue the federal government. I can sue Barack Obama all day long. I’ll continue to do so. I’ll sue the EPA. We’ll join in and sue the NLRB" she said, referring to the Environmental Protection Agency and the National Labor Relations Board. "We’ll sue all these organizations that are obstructing our states’ rights.

“All of the Republican attorneys general have joined together in force against Barack Obama and we can do that all day long, and we’ll continue to do that, but the only way it’s going to stop is if we get Mitt Romney in the White House.”
