As President Barack Obama continues to lose favor across the nation, even liberal Democrats appear to be having second thoughts, a new Washington Post/ABC News Poll released on Wednesday showed.

The "strongly favorable" view of the president among all voters has dropped 8 points since January, from 39 percent to 31 percent, but among some of his staunchest supporters, liberal Democrats, it has dropped 18 points to 60 percent.

That drop in favorability is reflected across the political spectrum. Among Democrats generally, there has been a 14-point decline to 58 percent, and among moderate or conservative Democrats, that view had eroded 12 points to 55 percent.

Even among non-whites, the president has slipped 9 points to 53 percent.

Though 52 percent of registered voters retain an overall favorable opinion of the president, if "support continues to drop, Obama will not be a help on the 2014 campaign trail," observes a Breitbart commentary.

Among the possible reasons for the decline in support, according to the Post:
  • No big second-term accomplishments
  • The administration's defeat over gun-control legislation
  • Political targeting by the Internal Revenue Service
  • Revelations of the National Security Agency’s wide-spread surveillance of data and phone records
The poll of 1,010 adults, conducted from June 19-23, has a 3.5 percent margin of error.
