Conservative talk show host Steve Malzberg says the uproar over the rodeo clown who wore a Barack Obama mask at the Missouri State Fair is a case of "outrageous political correctness."
"[This is] a sick obsession with protecting everything Obama," Malzberg said on his Newsmax TV program "The Steve Malzberg Show."
"I don't mean protecting his well-being. I mean his image. This is nuts."
On Saturday, a rodeo clown put on an Obama mask and was chased around by a bull.
Another clown was heard warning “Obama” that the animal was "gonna getcha, getcha, getcha, getcha!" and spectators were asked if they’d like to see “Obama” run down by the beast.
The incident incurred the wrath of Missouri’s National Association for the Advancement of Colored People.
"The activities at the Missouri State Fair targeting and inciting violence against our President are serious and warrant a full review by both the Secret Service and the Justice Department," said State President Mary Ratliff.
Malzberg said the reaction and fallout is vastly overblown.
"The Missouri State Fair said it would force all clowns to undergo sensitivity training. Sensitivity training, I kid you not! And the head of the state rodeo clown organization has resigned," he said.
"The state commission went further saying that it would require that all officials and subcontractor of the Missouri Rodeo Cowboy Association RCA have successfully participated in sensitivity training."
Even more ludicrous, he said, was the mask-wearing clown being dismissed from the rodeo — forever.
"Banned for life and from what I hear [he] has been getting threats," Malzberg said. "The announcer … He's out. This is outrageous, it's nonsense, it's dangerous."
Malzberg said that presidents have been mocked throughout history.
"There were protests against George W. Bush for eight years … [they claimed] He was an idiot, he was a dummy, he was a moron," he said.
"[And in] 1994 … they put a George H. W. Bush mask on a dummy and they let the bull attack that dummy … That was okay. Nobody said anything then."
