Rep. Wolf: Subpoena Benghazi Witnesses

By Bill Hoffmann   |   Monday, 19 Aug 2013 05:21 PM

Virginia Congressman Frank Wolf has renewed his call for a comprehensive, public, and bipartisan grilling of all witnesses integral to determining the true story behind the Benghazi attack.

"We need a public hearing. We need to subpoena the witnesses," Wolf told "The Steve Malzberg Show" on Newsmax TV.

"The two witnesses who would probably be able to answer this under oath [are] John Brennan, who is head of the CIA, and David Petraeus, who was former head of the CIA. There's so much that we don't know."

Story continues below.

Wolf, who represents the Old Dominion State’s 10th District, noted that Congress reconvenes on Sept. 9, two days before the one-year anniversary of the attack in which Ambassador Christopher Stevens and three other Americans died.

The bloodbath and its aftermath have been mired in charges of cover ups and bungled security.

A bipartisan questioning of witnesses would make for an impartial and fair look at what really happened and why, Wolf believes.

"You have to have both parties involved. Both parties ought to be able to call witnesses. Both parties should be able to subpoena witnesses because a subpoena is not an unfriendly act. It's a friendly act," he said.

"If you're a federal employee and you're afraid to come forward, by being subpoenaed, you are sort of protected.

"We have heard the story that CIA agent employees are asked to sign, again, nondisclosure agreements so they won't disclose what went on. That's why you need to subpoena them all and bring them up before the hearing publicly because if it's all done in private, closed door sessions, the American people will never find out what happened."

Those being subpoenaed should include everybody who was on the ground when the attack began, Wolf believes.

"To date, that has not happened. And anyone who has been talked to, there was just a handful, have all been done in closed sessions," he said.
