The election of Scott Brown as United States Senator, taking the famed Kennedy Senate seat in the bluest state in the union, the only state that voted for George McGovern in the 1972 presidential election (McGovern also carried Washington, D.C.), was no surprise to those following the pre-election polls.

The question is, why did it happen? There is great dissatisfaction in the land and growing disappointment in President Barack Obama among his supporters and the independents who voted for him barely a year ago.

We see him surrounded by the same financial people who were supporting the bailouts by taxpayers of the banks, car companies and AIG. Those same banks continue to rip off America and its taxpayers. Many Americans believe those who committed economic crimes that impoverished so many are appalled by the fact that few, if any, of those involved are being pursued criminally.

To the contrary, it appears those same bankers are once again running the financial institutions of the U.S. and are even awarding themselves large bonuses. Why hasn’t the president ordered Attorney General Eric Holder to set up a special unit to pursue them?

If public anger is not substantively addressed and those who committed crimes are not pursued, there will be a tsunami next November that will decimate the ranks of Democratic officeholders throughout the nation.
