In his first appearance as a senator on a Sunday morning talk show, Sen. Scott Brown said Sunday that he's not distancing himself from the tea party movement or Sarah Palin.

“I am very thankful for the tea party’s support," said Brown, according to the Boston Herald. "If I didn’t have the support of all different types of groups, I never would have been elected. I was sent here by the Tea Party members -- and everyone else -- to do my job. My role now as an elected official is to do my job.”

Brown, a Republican from Massachusetts, said he has "great respect for Sarah [Palin] and what she’s doing. She has a lot on her plate.”

Brown also said President Barack Obama is trying to score political points on the back of America's economic crisis, which he called a "sad" attempt.
