U.S. Citizenship not a Global Right

“A civilization is destroyed only when its gods are destroyed.”

— Emil Cioran (1911-1995), Romanian-French Philosopher

Ethos –– the fundamental character or spirit, the moral element of a culture––is essential to national survival. The political and moral imperatives that established the United States have maintained it as a nation state. Open borders pose a threat to these imperatives and thus to nation status.

Proponents say that open borders are necessary to rid the United States of its self-anointed hubris and that only then will the U.S. be cured of its national pride. In lock-step, the public education system (kindergarten through graduate level) is busy instilling in U.S. youth a self-loathing that ridicules the nation’s ethos and its record of bloody sacrifice for the nation and the world. In lock-step, the liberal news media demonizes the United States and spins the news to meet its goals.

Open-borders advocates spread heterodox theories that U.S. citizenship confers no defined rights or duties. Illegal aliens are told they are entitled to citizenship by their very presence in the United States. They are told that amnesty for illegal aliens is a global right, similar to a United Nations decree. They are told that they have a constitutional right to citizenship, because the Constitution is not an absolute document, and there are no absolute truths –– except for what open-borders advocates say. The Constitution is under siege and with it, the nation.

No other nation supports open borders nor seeks to legislate a global right of citizenship. No U.S. citizen can enter another country illegally and then, adding insult to injury, demand citizenship. The liberal left insists that the U.S. is a nation of immigrants, and so it is. The United States was built by immigrants — legal immigrants who filled out forms and passed health exams. Those immigrants respected U.S. culture and complied with citizenship requirements, which to this day include proficiency in the English language and a denial of allegiance to all foreign princes, potentates, and governments.

Today more than 30 million illegal aliens (President Barack Obama admits to 17 million) are balkanizing the United States, dividing it into fragmented segments. They are aided and abetted by liberal Democrats, radical Hispanic groups such as La Raza (The Race), leftist academicians, the liberal media, and groups financed by the likes of George Soros –– elitist billionaires who would buy their way into an oligarchy.

Add to this list the America haters, those individuals who choose to see only evil in their homeland. The strategy of these latter-day one-worlders is to foist an image of a morally bankrupt nation, something that America has never been, from its Paleo-Indians to its patriotic legislators struggling against agents of change in Congress –– agents that would destroy the nation to achieve globalist goals.

The Obama administration is intent on reshaping the demographics of the United States by way of open-borders immigration. Poorly educated, easily led, illegal aliens will be naturalized by a looming Obama amnesty. Thus it is not a lie when the president says that no illegal aliens will be covered by Obamacare. His intent is to naturalize them all.

Congress is tinkering with multiple Obamacare bills, all of which would socialize medicine in America. The sheer magnitude of these various bills obscures exactly how such socialized medicine will work and how it will be funded. Meanwhile, the Barack Obama administration holds meetings in the White House (no press allowed) to prepare a “comprehensive” immigration plan that, in short, will grant amnesty to all comers –– friend and foe alike. On June 25, Obama vowed that “comprehensive” immigration will be law before year’s end. Majority Senate Leader Harry Reid, D-Nev., echoed this prediction, and Sen. Charles Schumer, D-N.Y., has been designated the lead legislator for a Comprehensive Immigration Reform Act of 2009.

Pro-amnesty demonstrations with immigrants waving Mexican flags and signs attacking the legitimacy of the United States will not be repeated during Congressional debates on the upcoming immigration legislation. Amnesty advocates are toning down their anti-American rhetoric so as not to alarm and alert voters. Behind the scenes, however, amnesty supporters are hard at work. Domestic fifth-column organizations are busy denigrating the Founding Fathers and founding documents in their attempt to reduce citizenship and national sovereignty to “antiquated ideas of old dead white men.” They dismiss or have never heard the words of President Teddy Roosevelt, declaring that the United States has but one flag, and one language, English, and sole loyalty to America.

The U.S. Border Patrol estimates, conservatively, that since 1988 five illegal aliens enter the United States for every one that is detained. This translates to at least 1.1 million people a year for 21 years entering without health or background inspection. This estimate does not include persons who overstay their visas. A 2004 Government Accountability Office (GAO) report cited 2.3 million overstays in January 2000 and suggested that this number is low. Among the 9/11 terrorists, several were visa overstays. One illegal alien committed to terrorism can do large-scale damage. The recent arrests of three foiled terrorist plots in the United States confirms that it does not take an army to commit a 9/11 disaster.

Mere presence in a country does not confer rights. For every right there is a responsibility, and for every responsibility, there is a right. Obedience to the laws of the nation is a duty of citizenship. Thomas Jefferson in 1813 wrote that “Laws abridging the natural right of the citizens should be restrained by rigorous constructions within their narrowest limits.” Note his use of the word “citizens”.

For the past 44 years, Congress has jumbled the nation’s immigration laws by catering to immigrant special interest groups rather than to the citizens they allegedly represent. Combine poorly drafted immigration laws, judicial activism, and bureaucratic ineptness, and the United States has perhaps the world’s most mismanaged immigration policy.

Passage of a comprehensive immigration reform bill with a “pathway to citizenship” for all current and future illegal aliens will lead to a devaluation of U.S. citizenship and a loss of national sovereignty. Open borders will destroy the nation’s “gods” and with them, its civilization.
