Wisconsin Democratic State Sen. Chris Larson says Wednesday night’s vote to strip nearly all collective bargaining rights from public workers “reversed 50 years of worker rights in less than 15 minutes,” and was an affront to democracy.

In an MSNBC interview, Larson said he was rushing back to Wisconsin – along with several of his Democratic colleagues who have been AWOL in Illinois for weeks, when they got word that GOP senators were caucusing – to try and stop the vote, but they were too late.

“I was in my car, I drove 80 miles an hour, in order to try and get back and do something, anything,” Larson said. “But it was obvious the Republicans wanted to reverse 50 years worth of worker rights in less than 15 minutes – and that’s exactly what they did tonight.

“I think it’s an affront to democracy,” he said. “I think each of them gave new energy to the recall efforts [of Gov. Scott Walker] underway right now.”
