Museum Gunman Had Lawmaker's Address

Thursday, 11 Jun 2009 09:44 PM

The man arrested in the shooting attack that the U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum carried the address of an unidentified member of Congress, according to the U.S. Capitol Police.

The police declined to identify the member, according to The Hill Web site, which first reported the discovery, but officials did say there was no apparent danger to the lawmaker.

The alleged shooter, James von Brunn, 88, was charged with first-degree murder on Thursday for Wednesday’s killing of Stephen Tyrone Johns, a 39-year-old security guard.

“This case is still under investigation,” Senate Sergeant at Arms Terry Gainer told The Hill. “And while [von Brunn] did have a member’s office address, there was no threat indication. Chief Morse and his team are monitoring the intelligence gathered from the investigation and assisting as necessary.”

In a notepad officials found in von Brunn’s car, von Brunn wrote that President Obama was “created by Jews” and stated his concern that he would have his weapons taken away, according to a criminal complaint filed Thursday in the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia.

The complaint, quoting von Brunn’s notebook, said, “You want my weapons — this is how you'll get them. The Holocaust is a lie. Obama was created by Jews. Obama does what his Jew owners tell him to do.”

An FBI official told The Hill that the agency is investigating von Brunn’s motives and was aware of his writings. He said the FBI had no open investigation on von Brunn before Wednesday’s shooting.
