The cliché is that Democrats are the party of the young and hip and that Republicans are the party of the old and the stodgy. But you wouldn’t know that by looking at who gets the most attention on Twitter.
Of the 10 most watched Tweets on Capitol Hill, eight come from Republicans, according to a new report by public relations firm Burston-Marsteller, Politico reports
Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., House Minority Leader John Boehner, R-Ohio, and Sen. Jim DeMint, R-S.C., topped the list. Democratic Sen. Claire McCaskill of Missouri, was fourth, and Sen. Scott Brown, R-Mass., came in fifth.
“The fact that neither House Speaker Pelosi nor Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid rank among even the Top 10 overall congressional users on Twitter speaks volumes,” Dallas Lawrence, Burson’s managing director for digital public affairs, told Politico. “With two months before the general election, Republicans in Congress hold a clear advantage in the Twitter-sphere.”
