LAS VEGAS (AP) — In a secretly taped conversation, Nevada Republican Senate candidate Sharron Angle pleads with a minor-party competitor to support her campaign and badmouths the GOP establishment that's trying to get her elected.
Angle tells Scott Ashjian (ASH'-jee-in) that she needs his support to defeat Democratic Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid.
Angle promises to open doors for Ashjian in Washington is she's elected.
The Las Vegas Sun obtained the tape. On it, Angle says the GOP has drifted from principles of low taxes and small government.
Angle is a tea party favorite. She defeated the GOP's preferred candidate, Sue Lowden, in the June primary.
Ashjian's Tea Party of Nevada candidacy has been disavowed by party activists.
Angle's campaign says she was just expressing the anger of working Nevada families.
