California Republican Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger is rumored to be Barack Obama’s pick for energy czar, as the president–elect mulls choices for his Cabinet, according to Politico.com.

Schwarzenegger, whose term is set to expire in 2010, has long been an advocate of green policy and has supported renewable energy — even running one of his Hummers on biofuel, according to the Guardian Web site. Both Obama and Schwarzenegger oppose offshore drilling as well.

However, Schwarzenegger did not back Obama for president, even suggesting that his wife Maria Shriver — who did — made a poor choice, saying that she was "absolutely wrong [about] Obama." And, as late as Oct. 31, Schwarzenegger boosted McCain, at Obama’s expense, at a campaign rally in Columbus, Ohio. Schwarzenegger poked fun at Obama saying, "He needs to do something about those skinny legs; make him do some squats, and give him some bicep curls to beef up those scrawny little arms."

Still, the rumors persist, and Schwarzenegger has done nothing to dispel them. In an interview with ABC's George Stephanopoulos way back in July, Schwarzenegger, when asked if he was willing to accept the position, said, "I'm always ready to help in any way I can. I've committed myself to be a public servant."
