Palin Calls Letterman Attack 'Pathetic'

Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin castigated David Letterman as "pathetic" for his unflattering observations of her on his TV show, including saying she has "slutty flight attendant look."

During an interview Tuesday on conservative host John Ziegler’s Los Angeles-based radio show, Palin decried the so-called highlights of Palin’s recent trip to New York that the longtime talk show host listed on his "Late Show with David Letterman," Politico reported.

"What a commentary there," the 2008 Republican vice presidential candidate told Ziegler. "That's pretty pathetic! Good ole David Letterman."

“Very sad to not recognize what this trip was all about," she said of her stop in New York for an autism awareness event before heading to Washington for a Republican fundraiser.

"[I’m] just doing some good things here for some good people in New York. Such a distortion. Slow news day, evidently."

Letterman earlier made a cruel joke about Palin's 14-year-old daughter, Willow, who accompanied the governor to New York and attended a Yankees game with Palin. Yankee player Alex Rodriguez impregnated Willow during the seventh inning, Letterman said in an attempt at humor.

Letterman has poked fun at the expense of Palin and her family in the past.

“Everything is commentary, and facts don’t matter anymore,” Palin said of the unfair media coverage she and her family have received since she vaulted onto the national scene as the running mate for Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz.

Later in the radio show, Palin told Ziegler the accusation that she plagiarized former House Speaker Newt Gingrich in a speech last week in Alaska was “absolute nonsense” and called the reporters and bloggers who jumped on the story “buffoons.”

“If they are not held accountable, these reporters who repeat lies and repeat distortions all in the name of hard news, then our nation is headed to a very scary place.”

Palin added: “To be brutally honest, yeah, there are some days where I have to ask myself if some of this is worth it” she said about her career in politics. “[But I] will not sit down and shut up. I will continue to do that, and they can continue taking shots.”

Palin supporters also took offense to Letterman’s quips.

A Palin fan responded to Letterman’s comments in this posting on the Web site Conservatives4Palin.com: “As we've learned from the election last year, the rules are different for a pro-life, pro-Second Amendment conservative woman. Letterman continues to reveal himself as a pervert when he reduces a governor, a mother, and a wife to an object that he can leer at for his own pleasure.”
