Following his much-publicized interviews of Barack Obama and John McCain at a presidential forum, noted evangelical pastor Rick Warren is reportedly in discussions with Reader’s Digest Association to launch a new magazine.
The publication, inspired by Warren’s book “The Purpose-Driven Life,” has a working title of Purposes. RDA will publish the first test issue of the magazine as early as this fall, Jeff Bercovici of Portfolio magazine reports.
But both the RDA and Warren camps are downplaying talk of the new mag.
Joe Treen, a former editor at People and Discover, is said to be in line to edit Warren’s magazine. But when asked about the launch, he told Bercovici, “I’m not allowed to talk about it.”
And an RDA spokesman said: “There are always things under discussion. We don’t have any such project either about to happen or about to be announced.”
Warren is the founder of Saddleback Church in Lake Forest, Calif., the nation’s fourth largest megachurch with 22,000 members.
A Warren spokesman said: “If such a project were to happen, we would know about it, but can’t confirm anything of that nature at this time.”
