Texas Gov. Rick Perry, who has already described global warming theories as "phony," also doesn't have much patience for the theory of evolution.

Quizzed by a young boy Thursday on the campaign trail, Perry said he thought evolution "has some gaps" in it.

"It's a theory that's out there. It's got some gaps in it. In Texas we teach both creationism and evolution, because I figure you're smart enough to figure out which one's right," Perry said during a meet and greet in Portsmouth, N.H, The Hill reported.

Perry made the remarks in responding to the boy's question: "How old do you think the Earth is?"

"You know what I don't have any idea, I think it's pretty old ... I'm not sure anybody actually knows how old the earth is," responded Perry.

It was the boy's mom, while prompting her son to ask the questions, who pressed Perry for his views on evolution and science, reported ABC News.
