Palin Grandson Photos Go for $300,000

The first photos of the son born to Sarah Palin’s daughter Bristol have reportedly been sold to People magazine for around $300,000.

Bidding for the photos began at $100,000 even before Tripp Easton Mitchell Johnston was born on Dec. 28, a source told MSNBC. But the price remained flat until the drug-related arrest of Sherry Johnston, mother of the baby’s dad Levi Johnston.

She was charged on Dec. 18 with six felony counts of misconduct involving a controlled substance.

“Once Levi’s mom was arrested, then you had a story,” said one editor.

The only other weekly to make an offer for the baby photos was In Touch.

People declined to confirm the exact amount it paid for the photos, but “most estimates hover around the $300,000 range,” MSNBC reported.

Bristol and Levi, both 18, are said to have wedding plans.

And where does the name "Tripp" come from? Apparently, it's all in the family: He has a 19-year-old uncle named Track and a 7-month-old uncle named Trig.

Laura Wattenberg, author of "The Baby Name Wizard," told the Chiocago Tribune, "Single-p Trip would have been a more traditional choice. It's a preppy-style nickname for a 'third' ... The spelling Tripp transforms it to a surname. The Tripp who comes to many minds is Linda Tripp, but Ms. Palin is doubtless too young to even remember her."
