Michael Reagan: Palin a Great Pick

By Phil Brennan   |   Friday, 29 Aug 2008 02:22 PM

Radio Host and syndicated columnist Mike Reagan, former President Ronald Reagan's eldest son, tells Newsmax, "Now we've got our Maggie Thatcher."

Reagan was speaking of his dad's closest associate in world affairs and his best friend, Britain's iron lady, Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher.

Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin, whom Alaskans refer to as "Sarah Barracuda," is famed as a fierce competitor in debates. Reagan predicts she'll be more than a match for Democratic vice-presidential rival Sen. Joe Biden when they cross swords in their single debate this fall.

"He'll never know what hit him, Reagan predicts.

As for Republican presidential candidate John McCain's choice of Palin as his running mate, Reagan says she is the perfect pick, especially since it allows McCain to avoid angering supporters of other possible choices, such as Mitt Romney, who would have upset Huckabee supporters, or Huckabee, who would have upset Romney supporters.

"Sarah Palin has shown herself to be an extraordinary chief executive and reformer in her state," Reagan said. "She'll be a tough candidate for the vice presidency, and a fine vice president who'll shake up Washington."
