Democratic Sen. Robert Menendez of New Jersey says he thinks the Senate can deal with immigration as well as climate change and energy legislation this year.

The Senate's Republican leader, Mitch McConnell, says he thinks time would be better spent on other issues, such as border security and unemployment.

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid has moved the immigration issue ahead of climate change. That has led GOP Sen. Lindsey Graham to threaten to drop out of a bipartisan effort on climate change and energy issues. The South Carolina Republican says the change was made for political reasons as Democrats court Hispanic voters.

Menendez spoke Sunday on CNN's "State of the Union" while McConnell appeared on "Fox News Sunday."
