Obama, Calderon Discuss Drug Trafficking Issues

Monday, 22 Mar 2010 10:05 PM

President Barack Obama and Mexican President Felipe Calderon discussed the ongoing battle against drug trafficking when they spoke by phone ahead of a visit to Mexico by U.S. officials.

In a statement Monday night, National Security Council spokesman Mike Hammer described the afternoon conversation as an effort by Obama to underscore the administration's commitment to U.S.-Mexico relations.

Obama also highlighted the importance of the U.S. fulfilling its responsibilities in the effort against Mexican drug trafficking organizations and the U.S. commitment to support Mexico's own efforts.

Secretary of State Hillary Clinton is leading the U.S. delegation to Mexico this week.
