Limbaugh 'Intrigued' by Owning a Football Team

Leading radio talk show host Rush Limbaugh says he is interested in owning a team in the National Football League.

Asked by the Palm Beach Post’s Jose Lambiet if the St. Louis Rams in his home state of Missouri is a likely target, Rush said: “Of course I am interested in the Rams, but nothing is happening on that front now. I have in the recent past explored it with various St. Louis interests, but nothing is concrete.”

Limbaugh, who reportedly earns $38 million a year, also told Lambiet: “I have several good friends among NFL ownership, and ownership is very intriguing to me.”

One of those friends is Wayne Huizenga, part-owner of the Miami Dolphins. And the financial woes of his fellow Dolphin co-owner Stephen Ross could provide Rush with an opportunity for ownership, according to Lambiet, writer of the Post’s “Page2Live” column.

Businessman Ross needs more than half a billion dollars within the next two years to buy most of Huizinga’s remaining shares in the team. But a financial firm he has invested in may soon default on loans, according to the Wall Street Journal. And a $1 billion deal for his construction company in Phoenix has been pushed back by nearly two years.

“This will not affect the day-to-day operation of the Dolphins,” said a source. “But it could affect the final sale.”
