Fox News is denying it canceled an interview with comedian Joan Rivers because of a diatribe in which she said “they’re right to blame Sarah Palin” for the shooting rampage in Tucson, Ariz.
The sharp-tongued entertainer called Palin “stupid and a threat” and
said she should “go to another planet and get out of our face.”
The 77-year-old celebrity made her vitriolic remarks about Palin, who was Sen. John McCain’s 2008 running mate, in an interview with the celebrity news website TMZ.
“They’re right to blame Sarah Palin for the shootings,” Rivers declares outright in a video clip that is posted on the site.
Asked if Palin would make a good president, Rivers added: "I think Sarah Palin is an amazing woman. I think she represents everything strong a woman can be, and I think she should go someplace – to another planet – to show them, and get out of our face.”
According to Rivers, her agent received a call canceling a scheduled "Fox & Friends" appearance shortly after the TMZ interview aired.
"We got called," Rivers told CNN. "So now we call it 'Fox & Former Friends.' They said to our PR lady it was because of what we said about Miss Palin."
Fox denies it canceled the interview due to Rivers’ remarks about Palin, who has worked as a regular commentator for the network since January 2010.
"Due to the volume of news topics tomorrow morning and a full show, our booker mistakenly canceled Joan's appearance instead of rescheduling her for Friday's show," executive producer Lauren Petterson said Wednesday, according to the Hollywood Reporter. "We're in the process of booking her on an upcoming show."
