Michael Weston, a history professor who helped develop the Bush doctrine, says the United States and Israel will together prevent Iran from possessing nuclear weapons.

“Iran is the most dangerous country in the region now,” Weston, who teaches at Genesee Community College in Batavia, N.Y., told Newsmax.TV’s Ashley Martella.

“They’ve indicated they would probably be willing to use it (a nuclear weapon) to bring the final solution to that Israeli problem in the region,” Weston explains.

“They threaten with great regularity to use that weapon to remove what they call Zionist interests in the region. That is incredibly frightening.”

So the United States and Israel will cooperate to remove the nuclear threat, he says. “It will not be allowed to exist.”

There is a good chance that Israel will go to war with Iran, Weston says. Because of its size and the fact that it’s surrounded by so many enemies, Israel can’t risk being attacked first, he says.

“I don’t want to suggest war is imminent, but the probability is high.”

Any attack by Israel on Iran will be with the United States’ support and blessing, Weston says. “I’m sure we won’t be overt about it. We’ll simply act as though this was an independent move by Israel.”

Iran presents great danger to the United States, he says. In addition to threatening Israel, the Iranians can wreak havoc in Iraq and Afghanistan and harbor terrorists.

“Their primary focus is to disrupt American objectives in the region . . . At some point, they will have to be dealt with.”

As for the Iraq war, Weston says it wasn’t a mistake. “The region was incredibly destabilized by Saddam’s regime. Kuwait, other neighbors had been attacked in the past.”

In addition, there were al-Qaida elements thought to be active in Iraq, and there may have been weapons of mass destruction that were moved out of the country, Weston said.

“When you have a man who threatens to destabilize American interests in the region, we have to take proactive action.”
