Former Republican National Committee Chairman Haley Barbour says the outlook for the GOP is brighter this year than in 1994, when his party retook both the House and Senate in midterm elections.

“The political environment for Republicans this first half of April, 2010, is better than it was the first half of April 1994,when we won 54 seats in the House, took control of the House, the Senate, [and] more than 30 governorships,” said Barbour, now the governor of Mississippi.

Appearing on CNN's "State of the Union" show, Barbour predicted that the GOP would duplicate its 1994 feat of retaking both chambers of Congress when he was RNC chairman.
