Newt Gingrich prevailed in Monday night’s Fox News debate, and Ron Paul “was incoherent,” Rush Limbaugh said today on his radio show.

Limbaugh, who admitted to jumping out of his chair on several occasions while watching, said the two-hour, five-man GOP event was the best to date.

“It was everything that the establishment Republicans don’t want to hear and don’t want to see,” he said. “I have to say I think it was the best debate yet. It was Newt’s night, but they all did well.”

Gingrich received a standing ovation for his remarks on unemployment and jobs, while Paul “was incoherent” in regard to his foreign-policy statements.

“The Ron Paul influence needs to be reduced,” Limbaugh said.

He threw a bone to Mitt Romney, saying, “he did enough to maintain his position,” but saved most of his praise for the former House speaker.

“Obama doesn’t stand a prayer if Newt were the nominee . . . in the debates,” he said.
