Former Sen. George Allen is writing a book about politics and sports that is scheduled for publication next June.

The Virginia Republican, who also served as governor of the state, played quarterback at the University of Virginia and is the son of the late Pro Football Hall of Fame coach George Allen.

The new book will be titled "The Triumph of Character: What Washington Can Learn from the World of Sports." It will illustrate how people in the sports world "can provide examples of how to surmount challenges facing America," according to its publisher, Regnery.

Allen lost his Senate seat to Democrat Jim Webb in 2006. Since then he has been working with the American Energy Freedom Center, which he founded. It promotes increases in domestic coal, oil, and natural gas production.

Regnery has published political books by several prominent figures, including former House Speaker Newt Gingrich and conservative commentator Ann Coulter.
