Sharon Stone's Pro-Bush Speech on eBay

Monday, 05 Nov 2007 08:35 PM

Visitors to a Web site announcing an auction benefiting the Dalai Lama Foundation are in for a surprise - liberal actress Sharon Stone actually praising President Bush.

The auction on eBay offers visitors a chance to bid for a 1966 Land Rover station wagon formerly owned by the Dalai Lama.

Also included in the package is a 3-day Buddhist study session with the Dalai Lama in India - travel and lodging not included - and a meeting with Sharon Stone at the Missing Peace Art Exhibit show and dinner in San Francisco.

According to the auction's Web site, the listing "affords the world a once in a lifetime opportunity" to become personally involved in the Dalai Lama's cause by bidding on his personal vehicle, "learning about Buddhism from him, and getting to visit with one of his supporters, Sharon Stone."

The site links to a video showing the "Basic Instinct" star, who is a Buddhist, praising Bush for being "so eloquent" and "so kind" in presenting the Dalai Lama with the Congressional Gold Medal, the U.S. Congress' highest civilian honor.

The auction was set up by Auction Cause, an organization that arranges online auctions benefiting worthy causes.

In one recent auction, the group arranged for the sale of a letter from Majority Leader Harry Reid and other Democratic senators blasting talk show host Rush Limbaugh for using the phrase "phony soldiers" on his program. It was sold on eBay for a record $2.1 million, and Rush matched that amount, with all the money going to charity.

Details about the Dalai Lama auction can be found at www.ebay.com/dalailamalandrover. Bidding ends on Nov. 12.
