Republican presidential candidate Rick Perry has called Social Security a “Ponzi scheme” and a “monstrous lie.” In response, his competitor Mitt Romney has suggested that Perry would destroy Social Security.

Indiana Gov. Mitch Daniels has advice for both of them – drop the childish conflict, Politico reports. “We should not scare people when there’s no reason to,” Daniels said when asked about Romney’s criticism of Perry for his stance on the entitlement program.

As for Perry, “I think it’s also fair to say, ‘Don’t stop at diagnosing the [Social Security] problem unless you’re prepared to say a few things about how we save the safety net,” Daniels said. “I don’t think it’s a good moment for our party.”
