Former Utah Sen. Bob Bennett says the Republican Party needs a presidential candidate in 2012 who has a "national view" and can bob,bennett,2012,electionattract moderate voters, Politico reports.

"If you're going to nominate a national candidate you better have a national view, and we've always done that. The Republican nominee has almost always been closer to the center than the center of gravity of the Republican party," he told Fox News' Greta Van Susteren.

Bennett also said the GOP would've won a majority in the Senate in the 2010  midterm elections if it hadn't been for tea party candidates.
