U.S. Senator Coburn Says Short-term Debt Deal Likely

Sunday, 24 Jul 2011 10:09 AM

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - U.S. Republican Senator Tom Coburn said he believes a deal will be struck to raise the debt ceiling for a short amount of time and that President Obama will have no choice but to sign the deal.

The White House has said that it will only support a deal that extends raising the debt ceiling by enough so that another vote on the issue will not have to take place until after the 2012 elections.

"I understand why they are saying they won't sign a short term but I think they won't have any choice and I think that's the answer right now," Coburn said on the NBC television news program "Meet the Press."
