Jewish Group Calls for Coulter Boycott

A national Jewish political group is circulating an online petition calling on the major television news organizations to cease hosting outspoken columnist Ann Coulter.

Coulter said earlier this week that Jews would be “perfected” if only they would embrace Christianity, and an angered National Jewish Democratic Council wants CNN, Fox News, NBC, CBS and ABC to stop giving her air time.

“We just want Jews to be perfected, as they say,” Coulter told host Donnie Deutsch Monday on CNBC’s The Big Idea. “That is what Christians consider themselves: perfected Jews.”

Coulter explained to a flabbergasted Deutsch: “As you know from the Old Testament, God was constantly getting fed up with humans for not being able to live up to all the laws. What Christians believe – this is just a statement of what the New Testament is – is that that’s why Christ came and died for our sins. Christians believe the Old Testament. (Jews) don’t believe our testament.”

Coulter had been asked by Deutsch what an ideal nation would look like. “It would look like New York City during the Republican National Convention,” she responded. “In fact, that’s what I think heaven is going to look like . . . People were happy. They’re Christian. They’re tolerant. They defend America.”

Deutsch asked her if she truly meant that everyone should be Christian. “Yes,” she said. He asked her again, and again she said “Yes.”

The National Jewish Democratic Council was quick to condemn the comments.

“While Ann Coulter has freedom of speech, news outlets should exercise their freedom to use better judgment,” NJDC Executive Director Ira Forman told Israel Insider. “Just as media outlets don’t invite those who believe that Martians walk the Earth to frequently comment on science stories, it’s time they stop inviting Ann Coulter to comment on politics.”

Forman continued: “How does someone who says that Judaism should be thrown out, that Jews should be ‘perfected’ and that American would be better off were everyoine3 Christian continue to receive a megaphone and platform from the news networks? When will the media say ‘enough is enough’?”

Coulter stirred controversy earlier this month when, in an interview with The New York Observer, she said she fantasizes about stripping women of the right to vote. “If we took away women’s right to vote, we’d never have to worry about another Democrat president,” she said.
