U.S. Rep. Allen West, rejecting Democratic allegations that Republicans are obstructionists, lambasted Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid’s inability to pass a budget out of the Senate as simple “fiscal insanity.”
The Florida Republican made the comment at a news conference Wednesday with other House freshman, all demanding that the Nevada Democrat take action to pass a budget, according to CNSNews.com
“The American people have to balance budgets in their homes,” West said. “Our small business owners have to balance budgets to run their businesses. So, obviously, what Harry Reid calls obstructionism — [the way] I look at it — he stands for fiscal irresponsibility, he stands for fiscal insanity.”
Rep. Reid Ribble, recalling Reid’s days as an amateur boxer, said, “It’s time for Harry Reid to man up, get in the ring, and pass a budget.”
Reid “hasn’t even been able to pass a budget in 1,000 days,” the Wisconsin Republican said. “It’s offensive what’s going on” in the Senate.
Other Republican freshman also decried Reid’s budget lapses during the past several years, most of which Democrats controlled both houses of Congress.
Oklahoma Rep. James Lankford, a member of the House Budget Committee, said a budget is needed before the government can reduce its deficit because a budget would provide a spending blueprint.
