Obama: Vacation Plans Contingent on Healthcare

Tuesday, 22 Dec 2009 10:44 AM

President Barack Obama says his holiday plans depend on how soon the Senate can vote on its healthcare bill.

The president and his family are expected to spend Christmas in Hawaii, though the White House has not confirmed their final plans. But the president said Tuesday that he wants to be in Washington to help solve any last-minute problems that might arise in the healthcare debate.

A decision on Obama's departure is expected to be made Tuesday evening, White House spokesman Robert Gibbs told reporters.

The healthcare bill passed another 60-vote test Tuesday, and no last-minute complications were expected. Senators were on track to vote on final passage on Christmas Eve.

The president spoke on the Tom Joyner Morning Show.
