President Barack Obama says the United States cannot afford to ignore the trouble in Haiti.
Obama said Wednesday in an interview with ABC News that the United States doesn't want its relief efforts to appear as if it is taking over the island country destroyed by an earthquake. He says the government of Haiti has been destroyed, but the United States want to help them rebuild it, not take it over.
Obama says it will help the United States' image if it uses power in ways that don't involve wars. He says it also helps U.S. national security.
