Boehner Promises a New Congress Under GOP

Friday, 29 Oct 2010 07:24 PM

LIMA, Ohio (AP) — House GOP leader John Boehner (BAY'-nur) is assuring supporters in his home state of Ohio that Republicans will lead Congress in a much different way than the last time around if he becomes speaker.

Boehner says they'll look at every item on the federal budget and won't pay for programs that the government can't afford.

Boehner is in line to become the next speaker if Republicans gain 40 seats in the House.

Speaking at a Republican fundraiser in rural northwest Ohio, he predicted Republicans will have a big night on Tuesday.

He appeared confident and relaxed, delivering several one-liners in a short speech.

Boehner is set to criss-cross Ohio on Saturday to be with several Republicans who are trying to knock off incumbent House Democrats.
