Embattled presidential hopeful Herman Cain performed well under “tremendous” pressure at Wednesday night’s Republican debate, businessman Donald Trump says.

Speaking on CNBC on Thursday Trump said, “I thought he was real good last night considering the kind of pressure he was under.”

And Trump had further advice for Cain, who is battling through accusations that he sexually harassed four women while head of the National Restaurant Association in the late 1990s – “Hire the best, meanest lawyer around. If this stuff isn’t true, sue them immediately because you’ve got to stop it.”

Trump told the hosts of ‘Your Money, Your Vote,’ that the accusations against the one-time pizza mogul seem “unfounded."

“There was a report that the one woman was at a speech that he made a month before and she’s hugging him and holding his hand and all of these things and this is not a woman that was like abused.

“It’s pretty scary and whether you like him or whether you don’t like him, it’s a pretty horrible thing that’s going on.”

Three-times-married Trump, who flirted with a presidential race himself, was asked whether he dropped out because similar accusations could be leveled at him. But he claimed that he is “so lily-white,” such a thing couldn’t happen.

“I’m the cleanest person there is. I’ve never spoken harshly to anybody,” he joked, before admitting, “With all the screaming I do, I’ll have men coming out saying he treated me too rough.”

Trump cautioned Republicans that President Barack Obama is going to be difficult to beat despite the economy. He pointed out that unemployment rates could be coming down, just as they were when Ronald Reagan won a second term in a landslide in 1984.

“With Reagan, he did it with pretty bad numbers but the trend was good and he won, he won very easily. That can happen, you can’t take Obama lightly.

“Historically the incumbent always had a big advantage – you have the big podium,” he pointed out.

Trump said he will endorse one of the Republican candidates “within a month or so,” but gave no hint which one that would be.

Claiming that his endorsement represented “millions of people who are tired of seeing this country just get ripped,” he said, “I’m starting to know the candidates very well.”

On Texas Gov. Rick Perry’s slip when he could not remember the name of a government agency he wanted to scrap, Trump said, “You just can’t do that in the modern age of television."

“You have to be able to act quickly on your feet if you’re going to be a politician. That was a very scary moment. I didn’t know what was happening actually, I thought there might be something wrong with my television.

“We’ve all been there to a certain extent and you just have to keep talking. Keep talking, do something. But that was terrible.

“I speak to him and he’s a good guy, he’s been up to Trump Tower a number of times and I asked him, I said, ‘You know, like, what happens to you on the debates,’ and he said, ‘It’s just not my thing.’ Obviously it is not his thing, because when you’re with him, he’s perfectly fine, he’s a wonderful guy, he’s a nice guy.

“But in a debate he’s not very effective.”
