Sharpton Threatens Democrats

By Newsmax Staff   |

Rev. Al Sharpton is threatening to sue the Democratic National Committee if it includes Florida’s primary results in the official tally of presidential delegates.

The civil rights activist is traveling to Florida to meet with residents who say they skipped the January primary because they thought their votes wouldn’t count.

Sharpton plans to have them sign affidavits saying they would be disenfranchised if the Florida delegation is seated at the party’s convention, according to a new release from Sharpton’s staff reported by the New York Sun.

The Democratic Party vowed not to count the Florida and Michigan results after the two states moved up their primaries to January, earlier than party rules allowed.

Hillary Clinton won both primaries, with Barack Obama removing his name from the ballot in Michigan before the election.

Clinton’s campaign has lobbied to have the two primaries count, while Obama’s campaign opposes that.

Sharpton has not endorsed either candidate, but his effort in Florida is seen as benefiting Obama since Clinton won the primaries.

While in Florida, Sharpton will meet with local chapters of the National Action Network, the organization he founded and heads.

Appearing on Fox News’ “The O’Reilly Factor” on Friday, Sharpton said: “We cannot have the perception that the rules changed because of some favoritism, or because some people didn’t want to see Senator Obama as the nominee, when he legitimately pulled ahead.”

As an alternative to counting the Florida results, some officials in the state are calling for a “do-over” election, using mail-in votes.
