When it comes to getting value for money spent, former Sen. Rick Santorum leaves Iowa in first place. Santorum, who came in second in the Iowa caucuses, spent about $21,000 on media, which works out to about 73 cents a vote, The Washington Post’s Election2012 blog
The worst bang for the buck went to Texas Gov. Rick Perry, who spent about $4.5 million on media to grab a fifth-place finish, spending about $364 per vote.
Mitt Romney, who edged Santorum by eight votes to win the caucuses, spent $1.47 million on media, which comes out to about $49 per vote, according to the Post.
The Washington Post crunched the numbers before the final few hundred votes were tallied. Also, the Post did not include money spent by super PACS on behalf of the candidates.
