Republicans have found what might prove to be a winning theme in next year’s elections -- that President Barack Obama has fueled a decline in America’s global status. They see America losing its exceptionalism thanks to his policies, Politico reports
“Economically we are not the nation we once were, and we may be overextended in foreign commitments,” Thomas Eller, a retired attorney who attended a GOP luncheon in Denison, Iowa last week told the news service. “It’s a very difficult time. We cannot continue our slide.”
The theme of America’s slide could eclipse the usual focus on economic and social issues in next year’s presidential campaign. The decline is clearly an issue that resonates with the GOP base and the tea party movement.
