Plenty of people who turned out for Sarah Palin
’s bus tour along the east coast this week loved it. But many Republicans felt differently, seeing the “One Nation” road trip as more of a publicity stunt than a serious effort to advance the GOP agenda for next year’s presidential campaign, Politico reports
In Pennsylvania, Palin’s tour hit Gettysburg and Philadelphia. But that didn’t impress Pennsylvania Republican Party Chairman Rob Gleason. “I don’t think theater wins elections,” he told Politico. “Running for president is a very serious thing, and you need to deal with it as such. I’m looking for party builders.”
In New York, another stop on the tour, GOP Rep. Peter King acknowledged that Palin “probably has more hardcore support than any other candidate.” Still, “she needs to show that she can go beyond that, and this tour doesn’t accomplish that,” he said. King wants Rudy Giuliani to join the campaign.
