Conservative Republican insurgents, who vanquished GOP establishment candidates in several primary races, say the establishment is acting like a bunch of sore losers. They point to Alaska Sen. Lisa Murkowski’s decision to run for reelection as a write-in candidate as an example, Politico reports
Other examples include Delaware Rep. Mike Castle’s refusal to endorse Christine O’Donnell, who beat him in the primary, and Florida Gov. Charlie Crist’s decision to run for senator as an independent after it became clear he would get spanked by Marco Rubio in the primary.
“The tea party activists get involved in Republican primaries, play by the rules, and then the Republican establishment candidate proves that he was never a loyal Republican in the first place and goes rogue,” Matt Kibbe, president of FreedomWorks, told Politico. “That’s frustrating, but it’s part of the process of disciplining the Republican establishment. They’re coming around.”
