Paying reparations to any American is un-American, according to Rep. Steve King, R-Iowa. In an interview Wednesday with Iowa radio station KCIM, King said Congress’ decision to award $4.6 billion to American Indian landowners and black farmers who claim they were unfairly denied loans and other assistance from the U.S. Agriculture Department is an abomination.

steve, king, investigate, reparations“We don't do reparations in America,” King said, referring to what is now known as the Pigford settlement. “I think [the legislation] is full of fraud.”

The legislation, which passed the Democratic-controlled House last month by a 256-152 vote, will dole out $3.4 billion to American Indians who claim non-payment of royalties by the Interior Department for natural resources such as oil, gas and timber they once held, and another $1.2 billion to African-Americans who claim they were denied loans from the Agriculture Department due to their race.

King said the reparations settlement demands investigation, along with other legislation passed during the Democrats’ control of Congress. He vows to hold hearings once the GOP takes over the House next week not only over the Pigford settlement, but over ACORN, as well.

“You’ll hear a lot more in the news about ACORN and about the insidious nature of them: about how the national organization of ACORN now has been fractured, but [is] reforming in the states with the same people, the same players and the same intentions,” King said.

"There has been a list of government oversight and investigations that needs to be taken up,” he added. “And it's just a natural thing that people that are in charge don't want to investigate their own party. I saw that happen to some degree when Republicans were in charge, and I clearly see it happen now with Democrats controlling the presidency and the House and the Senate.”
